This series will highlight the movement of spirit through and from architecture, as its use changes and the individuals living within die both to Life and to the purpose of the building. Anytime there is a Figure in a photograph, the eye is drawn to it. With the different Ndundu series’ my aim is to pull the ever-present figure out of the background of architectural photography — the figure that is the human spirit (oftentimes Very Specific spirits).
There is no architecture without people, every photograph of a building has a throng of invisible persons at it’s core. I want to pull that spirit out and confront it, so we can see the building as a living thing. A thing with, perhaps, some agency. A Will. Which is kind of terrifying.
